Il 27 giugno 1980 un aereo passeggeri, il DC 9 Itavia partito da Bologna e diretto a Palermo, viene abbattuto nei cieli di Ustica. Il 2 agosto dello stesso anno una bomba (ma forse non solo una) esplode alla stazione di Bologna. In poco più di un mese oltre 160 tra uomini, donne e bambini innocenti vengono uccisi senza un perché ancora chiarito, senza mandanti ancora definitivamente scoperti. In questa inchiesta, Paolo Cucchiarelli, per la prima volta, mette a fuoco la relazione tra le due stragi; mette in ordine una quantità straordinaria di documenti, dichiarazioni, sentenze, inchieste giudiziarie, inchieste giornalistiche, scatti fotografici, tracciati radar; e offre al lettore una ipotesi nuova e coerente sui mandanti e sul perché l’Italia sia stata vittima di due attacchi così efferati e sanguinosi. Cucchiarelli – come già aveva fatto nelle sue inchieste su Aldo Moro – sposta l’attenzione dale vicende della politica interna alle grandi questioni internazionali di cui l’Italia era insieme vittima e ardita protagonista, tra alleanza atlantica e prossimità al mondo arabo e mediterraneo; e raccoglie una testimonianza straordinaria, e per molti versi sorprendente, di Marco Affatigato, uomo dall’insolito destino, stimato da Sandro Pertini, vittima di uno strano depistaggio: venne dato tra i passeggeri del DC 9 inabissatosi in mare e venne accusato di essere tra gli esecutori della strage di Bologna. Con questa inchiesta Paolo Cucchiarelli compone un altro, forse non ultimo, tassello di una vera e propria controstoria della nostra Repubblica, tentando di fare luce in una notte che non cessa di gettare le sue ombre sul nostro presente e sul nostro futuro.

Paolo Cucchiarelli (1956), scrittore e giornalista investigativo, già caposervizio e collaborator dell’Ansa, ha seguito i casi politico-giudiziari più eclatanti d’Italia: la strage di Piazza Fontana, la vicenda Moro, l’attentato a Giovanni Paolo II, Gladio, Tangentopoli, il dossier Mitrokhin. In molti casi le sue inchieste hanno portato alla riapertura di fascicoli giudiziari. Dal suo libro Il segreto di Piazza Fontana (2009) Marco Tullio Giordana ha tratto nel 2012 il film Romanzo di una strage. Al rapimento e al delitto Moro Cucchiarelli ha dedicato le inchieste Morte di un president (2016) e L’ultima notte di Aldo Moro (2018).

Chi è Paolo Bellini, accusato dalla Procura generale di essere “il quinto uomo” del commando che agì a Bologna il 2 agosto 1980, causando la peggiore strage della storia recente d'Italia e la morte di 85 persone? Quali segreti nasconde? “Bellini va arrestato” avevano chiesto i pm, ma il tribunale ha rigettato la richiesta. “In aula mi difenderò – si limita a dire lui – E rideremo”. Il suo curriculum criminale già oggi fa impressione. In un trentennio il bandito di Reggio Emilia ha ammesso l’assassinio del militante di Lotta Continua Alceste Campanile, eseguito per conto di Avanguardia nazionale; all’alba della Seconda Repubblica ha giocato un ruolo nelle trattative fra Stato e mafia intercorse fra l’uccisione di Falcone e Borsellino e le bombe esplose a Firenze, Roma e Milano nel 1993; nel ’99 si è autoaccusato di oltre 10 omicidi per conto della ‘ndrangheta in Emilia-Romagna. Soprannominato “la primula nera”, secondo l’accusa è lui la figura centrale nel nuovo processo per scoprire esecutori, mandanti e depistatori della strage alla stazione di Bologna. Attraverso la consultazione di atti giudiziari, rapporti di polizia, inchieste giornalistiche, interviste con magistrati e investigatori che hanno indagato su di lui, emerge la figura di un personaggio unico nel suo genere.

Perché la cucina bolognese è così famosa? Per le sue specialità, mortadella o tortellini, che si sono affermate nei secoli?
