Il processo che si è celebrato in Italia è finito prima di iniziare. La Corte di Assise e la Corte di Cassazione hanno affermato la carenza di giurisdizione dei giudici italiani sulla base di principi consuetudinari di diritto internazionale di dubbia applicazione. Quello che doveva essere un atto di giustizia, di ricerca della verità, si è trasformato in un sostanziale atto di ingiustizia, soprattutto alla memoria di colui che abbiamo definito eroe: Nicola Calipari.

Erano migliaia? Quanti sopravvissero e quanti morirono di stenti, di fame e di freddo? Chi navighi nella rete alla ricerca di informazioni o di opinioni su Fenestrelle e sulla deportazione dei prigionieri di guerra meridionali al Nord è subito colpito dall'estrema violenza del linguaggio e dal ricorrere di termini di confronto novecenteschi impiegati senza alcuna prudenza: campi di concentramento, lager, Auschwitz, sterminio. Intorno al destino di quei soldati è stata sollevata negli ultimi anni una cortina di interrogativi fumosi e di sospetti gratuiti, che può essere smantellata solo attraverso un'aderenza scrupolosa ai fatti dimostrati.
