MISSMELISS

“I was born on August 17, 1970. Do your own math to figure out how old I am. If you ever feel like sending me a gift (I love presents) you can find my wishlist here.
I’ve been in love with words for as long as I can remember, and “published” my first “book” (a volume of poetry) when I was five. It was a limited edition, given only to close family members. I was ten when I realized I wanted to be a writer “when I grew up,” having already cast aside desires to become a jockey, a marine biologist, or a major league baseball pitcher (my curve breaks .200, by the way). I’ve had a web-presence since 1994, though I didn’t really begin formal blogging until April, 2001. At first, I limited myself to community writing sites like OpenDiary and LiveJournal, but in 2002, I made the leap to blogging on my own domain. I was an early adopter of Movable Type, but switched to WordPress in 2004. I also love performing. I acted and sang in grade school and high school, and studied cello from the age of nine (which is really old for a cellist). In college, I learned about the connection between theater and social justice, but I’ve never managed to do much with that knowledge, except for a piece of street theater in San Jose, CA in the 90′s, when I played Becky Bell. Since then, I’ve done a couple of radio commercials, spent three years as an improviser with the Dallas branch of ComedySportz, become the managing editor of the ezine All Things Girl, and done a lot of audio drama. Please visit my professional site, MelissaBartell.com, for more information. This blog is essentially an open journal. As such, I do not accept guest posts, and while I have participated in text-based advertising in previous incarnations of the blog, I no longer do so on this site.
